My name is Will Washington, and I’ve been marketing for over 20 years.

I built my first website in 1997. I sent my first marketing email in 2002. I created my first social media business profile in 2005.

I’ve written hundreds of online articles and blog posts. I’ve watch and read thousands of videos and articles to better understand marketing and copywriting.

I have been mentored by some of the internet marketing greats including Ed Dale, Ryan Deiss, Marisa Murgatroyd, and Ken Spano.

What is marketing?

My favorite definition of marketing comes from the book Guerrilla Marketing by Jay Conrad Levinson. In that book, he states that marketing is every single bit of contact your company has with anyone in the outside world. I love that definition. How you answer the phone, the clothes you wear, your marketing assets like your website and logo, and how quickly you respond to email, all that plays into your marketing.

Another definition I really like comes from the book Duct Tape Marketing by John Jantsch. He states that marketing is getting someone who has a need to know, like, and trust you, and you embody that on the path to try, buy, repeat, and refer. He goes on to add that marketing is a system, not some strange form of creative voodoo thinking.
